#53 - Medinah Country Club (No. 3) - Ryder Die
Some things in this world don’t always go together like lamb and tuna fish (Big Daddy reference), but others, like spaghetti and meatballs make a lot more sense. On this rainy Friday morning it made perfect sense to wake up at 3:30am and catch a flight to Chicago in order to check off Quest round #17. Why is it so easy to wake up early to play golf, but so hard to wake up to head to the office? The flight to Chicago was not rough as we flew right through the storm that dumped a ton of rain on the massive property at Medinah, yet our gracious host Shane was already on the range warming up by the time Adam and I secured the rental car. That same rain scared away the regulars, leading our caddies to note that we completed the fastest round they have ever personally witnessed on the tournament course.
The Par 5’s at Medinah are really something special, with unique ways of protecting the course from a player reaching in two shots. While Joe was able to make 2 pars and 2 bogeys and Shane made a birdie, bogey, par and double, it appeared Adam was more focused on his training for his half-Ironman and not enough on his golf game (5 over on the par 5’s), We felt lucky that we were given the chance to play the course prior to the massive renovation the club has planned for the end of this season in which the final 5 holes will be completely reworked and look forward to the day when we can return and see the updated layout!
